One of my favorite stories about Kansas City took place in 2014 right after the Royals lost the World Series by 90 feet. It was after this loss that a visitor from San Francisco, a Giants fan, penned a "Letter to the editor" the extolled all the wonderful virtues of Kansas City. We may have lost the series, but KC came up a winner in the eyes of this visitor with our hospitality. He stated:
"From the moment I hit the parking lot at Kauffman Stadium in my Giants gear, folks made a point to walk over, introduce themselves, welcome us to Kansas City and wish us good luck. People offered to buy us beer and brats. Most mind-bending was the woman who apologized for the lopsided score."
The author of the letter went on to say, "My wife and our friends spent the better part of our flight home marveling at the generosity and warmth of the Royals fans and wondering whether we’d dropped into a parallel universe. At some point, I recall announcing to my wife that I was prepared to move to Kansas City as soon as possible."
Our town is worth celebrating. We have incredible sports teams that have won three championships in the last nine years. There is beautiful architecture and sights to see. We have a world class art museum and we are the Barbecue Capital of the World. However, our greatest source of pride is our people.
This is our town. This is where we can be found.
